Our Builds.

The Cubby range of architecturally designed buildings are inspired by back-country huts scattered throughout New Zealand forestry and mountainous country. These huts often standout as significant landmarks in their surroundings and provide a place to take shelter, sleep and cook food. These huts welcome everyone who visits and will be left for future generations to come. The resulting Cubby architecture fits well into any rural, urban and suburban New Zealand setting

The Range

Close attention to detail and end-user function has been considered throughout the design process of our base build range.

That being said, let our team know your design vision and find this can be brought to life through design development and services provided.

Pod 1

Our smallest build to date is 12m2.  To put this to scale, this is similar to a standard-sized bedroom or study. This is perfect when you need an extra room but you're not ready to move home.

Pod 2

Our medium builds sit around 18m2. This is similar in size to a lounge or living area. Great for an larger out of house bedroom, extra living space, or sleep out.

Pod 3

Larger buildings between 21m2 - 36m2 are big enough to have multiple spaces with internal partition wall divides. These larger builds accommodate enough space to be used as a guest house, or a small self-contained bach.

Cubby Features

Regardless of if you're choosing an original or custom design, we like to guarantee quality in what we build.

Scroll through the features we have to offer you when building with Cubby.

The building size, window size & location are set out for maximising 2400x1200 plywood linings for low waste and max bracing. Timber framing offcuts are re-used for other framing elements within the building. All leftover construction material is recycled or disposed of correctly.

 Reduce

material waste

Internal walls can be relocated to suit client requirements. Cubby designs create opportunities for indoor/outdoor flow by incorporating as many doors and windows as possible. It is recommended that clients consider external decking and steps alongside the building to maximise indoor/outdoor flow.

Open-plan living

Cubby designs include high quality, long lasting materials. Windows are double glazed & argon filled for increased thermal properties. Cladding systems are low maintenance, hard wearing and have been designed with material junctions located for best weather tightness. Internal plywood linings provide excellent wall bracing and a durable wall finish that does not damage easily.

High Quality, Durable

Cubby buildings can be located anywhere in New Zealand including all climate zones and wind zones. Double glazed windows, insulated floors, insulated walls and insulated ceilings are included. Operable windows provided for natural ventilation and healthy living. Roof skylight windows are also available.

Thermal performance

& natural light

Rainwater collection tanks can be included with any Cubby building. This feature supports off-grid living, sustainable lifestyles and reduce water usage.
